Awards and Competitions
As part of our mandate to encourage education and training rooted in ethical values, the Foundation funds a number of awards and competitions.
- In honour of Sheldon Chumir, a distinguished graduate of the University of Alberta Law School, the Foundation created the Sheldon M. Chumir Memorial Essay Prize in Human Rights or Ethics in Government.
- To commemorate what would have been Sheldon Chumir's 65th birthday, International Human Rights Day, and the Alberta Centennial, Sheldon's friends and Foundation supporters created the Sheldon M. Chumir Memorial Award in Ethics, Human Rights and Civil Liberties at the University of Calgary Law School.
- The Sheldon M. Chumir Scholarship for Business Ethics and Leadership was awarded for the first time in 2008 to a student enrolled in the Mount Royal University Bissett School of Business.
- The Foundation is pleased to sponsor the annual Sheldon Chumir Foundation Ethics Event at the Queen's University Inter-Collegiate Business Competition.
- To encourage informed debate and ethical reflection amongst young people, the Foundation sponsors the annual Calgary Junior High Regional Debate Championships.
