2004 - 2005 Media Fellow: George Fetherling

Released Date: June 23, 2008
Tanked: Canadian think tanks and the daily press

The Sheldon Chumir Foundation for Ethics in Leadership takes pleasure in announcing the appointment of George Fetherling, as its 2004 - 2005 Media Fellow.

Mr. Fetherling's topic explores the relationship between Canada’s growing number of think tanks and the news media, examining the leadership issues raised in print and broadcast newsrooms. He asks whether, and to what extent, newsroom managers, both print and electronic, exercise policy beneficial to the public in granting think tanks a level of access not so readily available to those without impressive-looking letterheads. This promises to be a controversial and ground-breaking piece of work.

George has written over fifty books addressing almost every topic imaginable, and sits as a juror on a variety of Arts Councils, including the Canada, Ontario, Toronto, and Manitoba Arts Councils, as well as for international, national, provincial and municipal book awards. He is a Canadian citizen living in Vancouver, where he is a freelance columnist for the Vancouver Sun.
